POSITION OVERVIEW
The Controls Engineer I is responsible for designing and developing control systems for harsh topsides and subsea environments.
Trendsetter Engineering provides Multiplexed Electro-Hydraulic (MUX) Controls Systems for use in the subsea industry. The Controls Engineer I is responsible for designing and developing control systems for harsh topsides and subsea environments.
The role involves managing designs from conception through end of life, incorporating feedback from stakeholders and customers, and collaborating across functions to integrate controls equipment with mechanical designs and equipment. Strong process and project management skills are important for working effectively with peers and cross-functional teams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define control system functionality, specifications, and associated schematics.
- Create schematics and layouts and select components and products that meet project requirements.
- Develop specifications and test requirements that drive product design.
- Perform design and analysis of subsea and topside distribution equipment, including SUTA, SCM, TUTA, HFLs, and MQCs.
- Analyze designs for reliability, serviceability, and manufacturability.
- Create bills of materials, drawings, layouts, and models to support new designs.
- Provide guidance to designers and other engineers on design tasks as needed and function as lead on tasks of moderate complexity.
- Support departments including Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and Customer Service.
- Recommend improvements to engineering policies and establish new procedures as needed.
- Drive continuous improvement in electrical-scope best practices by evaluating industry tools and techniques and collaborating with the electrical engineering team.
- Maintain awareness of how assigned tasks affect schedule, scope, budget, and quality throughout development from concept through end of life.
- Perform engineering duties at customer sites or offshore when required.
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis on Controls.
- Strong understanding of electronics and their relationship to software, firmware, mechanical interfaces, and operation across electrical specialties.
- Track record of learning, leveraging, and integrating proven technologies into new products to solve challenging problems.
- Broad knowledge of industry standards, best practices, and related work processes.
- Installation and commissioning experience is a plus.
- n-depth understanding of hydraulic systems.
- Proven teamwork, collaboration, and leadership skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Firm knowledge of electrical product safety.
- Experience with AutoCAD, ANSYS, SolidWorks, and Microsoft Office

- Distribution hydraulic subsea equipment.
- Topside equipment.
- Sensing and control systems.
- Ethernet communication systems at the physical and/or network level.
- Instrumentation and noise.
- Optimization of hardware and firmware integration architecture for best performance.
- Experience as a technical lead on engineering development projects.
