Position Overview
Our client is looking for an experienced Reliability Engineer to own and improve asset reliability strategy within a complex industrial terminal environment.
This is a hands-on role focused on solving equipment problems, preventing repeat failures, improving maintenance strategies, and using operating and condition data to increase equipment reliability and cost effectiveness.
You will work closely with Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, Projects, Planning & Scheduling, Inspection, Warehouse and other technical subject matter experts to improve asset performance and reduce equipment risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain reliability strategies based on asset criticality, failure modes, operating conditions, OEM recommendations, equipment history, condition data and lifecycle cost.
- Optimize preventive, predictive, condition-based, failure-finding, operator-round and run-to-failure maintenance strategies using RCM, FMEA and FMECA principles.
- Own the technical effectiveness of PM and PdM programs and eliminate low-value or ineffective maintenance tasks.
- Support condition-monitoring programs including vibration analysis, infrared thermography, oil analysis, ultrasound, motor and electrical testing, lubrication, alignment and performance trending.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis for significant, repeat, high-cost or production-impacting equipment failures.
- Develop and maintain a formal Bad Actor process to identify recurring equipment problems and drive corrective actions.
- Support critical spares, BOMs, long-lead items, obsolete equipment and material readiness with Warehouse and Procurement.
- Improve CMMS asset hierarchy, criticality, equipment classes, failure coding, PM/PdM programs and equipment history.
- Support repair-versus-replace, redesign, equipment upgrade, standardization and capital-investment decisions.
- Establish and support precision-maintenance standards and practices.
- Participate in Management of Change, capital projects, equipment upgrades, modifications, commissioning and handover activities.
- Conduct field walkdowns and equipment reviews to verify actual equipment condition and identify reliability risks.
- Provide clear reporting on equipment reliability, bad actors, RCA actions, PM/PdM effectiveness, risk and improvement priorities.
Qualifications
- 5–10+ years of reliability engineering, maintenance engineering, industrial maintenance or asset-management experience within heavy industrial, terminal, petrochemical, refining, marine or material-handling environments.
- Strong working knowledge of RCM, FMEA/FMECA, RCA, PM optimization, asset criticality, Bad Actor analysis and condition-based maintenance.
- Hands-on knowledge of rotating equipment, pumps, motors, bearings, gearboxes, mechanical power transmission, conveyors, material-handling equipment and supporting systems.
- Experience developing and improving preventive, predictive and condition-based maintenance programs.
- Strong analytical, organizational, facilitation, technical-writing and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with CMMS systems, including asset hierarchy, criticality, PM programs, failure coding, work history and equipment-data analysis. Experience with FIIX is a plus.
- Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, TCEQ, Coast Guard, PSM and applicable engineering and manufacturer requirements relevant to terminal maintenance and reliability.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Reliability, Industrial or a related engineering discipline preferred. Equivalent technical education and relevant reliability experience will also be considered.
- CMRP, CRL, vibration, machinery lubrication, RCA, RCM or FMEA certifications are preferred.
