Position Overview
We're looking for an experienced HSS Manager to lead Health, Safety and Security across a fast-paced industrial terminal environment.
This role is responsible for regulatory compliance, safety and security programs, emergency readiness, investigations, audit preparedness, and building a strong culture of safety and accountability across the operation.
The HSS Manager will be a visible field leader who can translate OSHA, DOT, USCG, EPA and MTSA requirements into practical programs that work in an active industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure employees remain current on HSS requirements, procedures and required training.
- Develop and revise policies and procedures to maintain compliance with applicable state and federal requirements.
- Maintain required regulatory plans, documentation and compliance records.
- Monitor operations for HSS compliance and implement corrective actions when needed.
- Maintain Emergency Response Team training and readiness.
- Recruit, train, supervise and develop HSS and security staff.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching to team members.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, inspections, corrective actions, training and compliance activities.
- Conduct safety inspections and audits and ensure identified corrective actions are completed.
- Develop and manage HSS budgets and resources.
- Lead and support incident investigations and ensure lessons learned are communicated and implemented.
- Maintain audit-ready compliance systems and support regulatory inspections and external audits.
- Provide visible HSS leadership throughout the facility.
- Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Security, Environmental and leadership to strengthen safety performance and reduce operational risk.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of safety and compliance leadership experience in terminal, petrochemical, refining, chemical, marine or another heavy industrial environment.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, USCG, EPA and MTSA requirements.
- Experience with safety management systems, regulatory audits and incident investigations.
- Experience maintaining regulatory plans, records, training programs and audit-ready compliance systems.
- Strong leadership, communication, coaching and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with frontline employees, supervisors, contractors, regulators and senior leadership.
- Strong focus on risk prevention and continuous improvement.
- Experience managing staff, budgets and departmental resources.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Industrial Management or a related discipline preferred.
- CSP, ASP, CHST, CIH or CHMM certifications are preferred.
- TWIC required or ability to obtain.
- Valid U.S. driver's license required.
